Promotions and Marketing

A national social media campaign will run during SDG Week Canada as the main communications tool to unite campus events. We’ll share communications materials and hashtags with participating campus organizers to use in their social media posts when promoting their events with national and international audiences.

Events can also be submitted in advance of SDG Week Canada to organizing partners who will aggregate all submitted events into a curated list by theme and/or type to share widely through the regular promotions of SDG Week Canada. This curated list will also serve as an idea bank for future SDG weeks, complete with links and acknowledgements on campuses organizing each event.

Disclaimer: Multiple Canadian post-secondary institutions contribute to the delivery of SDG Week Canada. The opinions represented in the SDG Week Canada programming are those of the campus entity organizing them and do not necessarily reflect the views of other participants in SDG Week Canada or the organizing partners.

Learn

Arrange for a Guest Speaker or Speaker Series: Engage on and off campus sustainability educators, topic experts, community leaders, and innovators.

Share Findings from Research Happening on Campus: Invite faculty and graduate students to present on their research findings for SDG-oriented work they are doing.

Engage Faculty on Teaching and Learning for the SDGs: Work with faculty across campus to integrate the SDGs in lectures and seminars. Many great resources already exist to draw from (e.g. video resources from the SDG Academy and curricular resources).

Organize a Panel or Workshop: Create a space for interdisciplinary learning and critical engagement with sustainability issues focused on participant-driven reflection, brainstorming, and action planning (e.g. Decolonizing the 2030 Agenda, the Future of the SDGs).

Host a Movie Screening: Use film to give audiences opportunities to learn about sustainability issues from local and global community perspectives (e.g. The Radicals by Beyond Boarding Collective).

Engage

Create an SDGs Competition: Provide opportunities to win prizes/start-up capital to encourage engagement with sustainability issues and innovation in sustainability solutions (e.g. sustainability hackathon, SDGs pitch competition).

Organize an SDGs Scavenger Hunt: Showcase work that is already being done to progress sustainability on campus by organizing with campus services, faculty, and student clubs to have each host digital and in-person “points of interest” on campus as part of the scavenger hunt.

Host a 17 Rooms Event: Convene your campus community to identify cooperative actions to take over the coming 12-18 months to advance the SDGs.

Organize a Networking Event: Connect students with professionals in sustainability-related businesses and organizations to highlight career opportunities in sustainability, explore interests, and build meaningful and professional connections.

Storytelling Session: A guided facilitation to support the sharing of different perspectives, identities, and interests (e.g. Sharing Session, YCAP Climate Storytelling Workshop).
